Lot Essay

Maria Anna Cousebant was the daughter of Frederik Cousebant and Thecla Lakemans. In 1709 she married Nicolaas Bosschaert, son of Willem Bosschaert. It is likely that the present portrait was painted for her engagement, as the arms displayed are only those of the Cousebant family.
