Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas has been strip-lined and is stable on its stretcher. Discoloured retouching associated to historic frame abrasion and the tacking marks along the edges of the canvas is visible to the naked eye. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals fine widespread retouching in the darker tones of the background and figures, eg. Christ's mantle. There is a vertical repaired tear to the architecture, centre left, with associated retouching and another repaired damage to the beard of the apostle on the extreme right. The canvas is unframed.
