The canvas has an old relining but retains a good tension on its stretcher. Inevitably, some of the darker tones in the background are a little worn and the paint surface is rather dry. The blue in the kneeling figure’s mantle appears to have been strengthened in some of the darker folds.
Examination under ultra violet light is largely impaired by the thick varnish layers but does reveal some minor retouching in the sky, upper right.
