The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This painting is executed on canvas and has been reinforced on the reverse by a glue lining. The canvas is quite firmly adhered to the stretcher. The paint layer is stable and exhibits a fine craquelure. In raking light restorations to the figure’s white garment are visible. Additional restorations to the background addressing an approximately two inch hole at upper right and the craquelure are visible in natural light. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned restorations and revealed retouching in the lion’s face and to the rocky landscape in the foreground. Additional retouches along the craquelure in the dark background were also revealed. The painting is offered in a gilt wood frame.
