The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This painting is executed on a uniformly thin piece of slate. The paint layer is stable, although slightly dirty, under a clear varnish. There is a fine craquelure across the figure of Saint Peter. Restorations to a small chip in the background at upper left, to the saint's forehead, chest, hand, and robes are visible in raking light. There are pinpoint losses along the craquelure, some of which have not been filled. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirmed the aforementioned restorations. Further inspection was hindered by an opaque varnish. The painting is offered in an ornately carved and giltwood frame.
