The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This single-piece panel is even and remains stable. The integrity of the artist’s draughtsmanship remains highly appreciable, particularly in the details of the figure’s costume and the still life in the lower left. There is some historic abrasion in the thinner glazes, such as the darkest passages of the background. Ultraviolet examination reveals scattered restoration, particularly in the red cloak on the sitter’s lap, as well as other thin overpainting in darker areas, such as the curtain.
