The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The unlined canvas remains firmly secured to its original stretcher. It retains an adequate tension and remains stable. Close examination confirms that the drawing, wealth of color, tone and detail remain in very good condition, with well-preserved impasto in the areas of foliage. An even pattern of aged craquelure is becoming increasingly prominent. Ultraviolet examination reveals a streaky layer of aged varnish, with slight paint losses along the edge of the canvas associated with frame wear.
