Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The oak panel has been cradled to the reverse. There is a repaired horizontal split with associated retouching running the width of the panel through the middle of the composition and a more minor split in the lower right corner. There are two horizontal surface scratches and some very small scratches with associated paint loss; to the frame of the picture of Andromeda in the background; and near the upper edge of the panel (all as visible in the illustration). Some discoloured retouching is visible to the naked eye, eg to the hat of the figure on the extreme left of the composition. Examination under ultra violet light is obscured by the old varnish but confirms the retouching associated to the two splits.
