The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This pair of paintings are executed on canvases that have been supported on the reverse by a glue lining. They are secure on their keyed stretchers. The paint layers are somewhat dirty, under clear varnishes. Both paintings exhibit an uneven craquelure.
The first:
In natural light repairs to widening craquelure in the background at upper center are visible in raking light. Losses in scattered in the background around the stove have been delicately repaired. The surface overall has been abraded. Restoration to a small tear in the central figure's skirt has been repaired. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirmed the aforementioned repairs and revealed further small touches scattered throughout.
The second:
The surface is slightly abraded overall. In natural light an area of damage at upper center, in the architecture, has been delicately restored. Inspection under ultraviolet light revealed an overall campaign of restoration that address the abrasions throughout. An uneven varnish hindered further investigation.
The pair present well and are offered in matching giltwood frames.
