The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension and remains stable. The paint is structurally stable. In natural light some minor scattered retouching can be seen to the sky, foliage, horse, lake and face of the groom can be seen. This does not affect the overall effect of the painting, which retains its crispness of modeling and the vivacity of colour. Examination under UV light confirms these minor retouchings. It reveals retouchings down the left and right vertical edges of the canvas, suggesting that the work was previously framed to be slightly narrower or may have been unrolled from a narrower stretcher at some point.
