Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas is relined and is stable. The surface is uneven, particularly in the upper background, where there may have been some paint lifting/losses in the past, and where areas of overpaint are visible. In the upper left corner the slight bubbling of the canvas indicates some possible heat damage in the past. The examination under UV light confirms the retouching of the background, and shows further retouching to the face of the figure. Overall however the picture presents well, with the drawing and brushwork, particularly of the costume, readily appreciable.
