This relined canvas remains in a good condition with the modelling and wealth of detail appearing generally well preserved despite the natural ageing of the paint layer. The texture of the paint is uniform as a consequence of the lining treatment. There is a fine pattern of craquelure that remains stable across the canvas. Ultra-violet fluorescence examination reveals a clear varnish with scattered retouchings underneath, predominantly minor, isolated strokes to the background but also to the edge of the pink rose.

The moulded, ebonised wood frame is in very good condition.
