The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This painting is executed on a copper sheet which has been adhered to a wooden cradle. The copper support is mostly flat, there is an area of slight tenting over the upper right corner. The paint layer is stable under a clear varnish. Frame abrasions at the extreme edges in the background have been retouched. There is some pitting, which is addressed by careful restorations in the flesh tones and blue sky. In natural light, a campaign of restoration is visible to the figure's neck, décolletage, and red garment; these restorations appear to address a scratch and associated losses. Part of the scratch has been left untreated in the garland at center right, as seen in the catalogue image. A repair in the figure's hair, at the nape of her neck, addresses a small loss. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals further restoration in the dark background to the floral garland and to the delicate fabric in the sitter's hair. The painting presents well and is offered in a simple giltwood frame.
