The canvas has been relined and remains stable. Examination under natural light shows some minor spots of retouching to the lower right quadrant and the sitter’s hand, confirmed by examination under ultraviolet light. There are a couple of minor scattered spots of retouching to the upper right, and the upper left background, as well as in the sitter’s jacket. The paint surface remains stable and the modelling of the sitter and the fabrics are in a good state of preservation.
