The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas is supported on the reverse by a glue lining and with wood strips affixed to each edge. The canvas is stable on its support. The paint layer is stable and is dirty under a varnish that has yellowed with age. There is a fine unobtrusive network of craquelure across the surface. Under natural light, touch-ups to the head of the angel holding a quiver and to the trees below in the foreground are evident. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned touch-ups, as well some craquelure fill and fine lines of strengthening throughout. The painting presents well and can be hung in its current condition. The work is offered in a carved and giltwood frame.
