The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The painting appears to have undergone recent conservation that has been sensitively carried out. The canvas has a glue lining and is firm on its stretcher. The paint surface is stable and clean beneath a clear, fresh varnish with a craquelure pattern in keeping with its age. The surface is somewhat abraded but the painting reads well overall. There is restoration and retouching to all four corners, visible in raking light.
Inspection under UV reveals restoration to a possible old tear running vertically approximately 12 in. from Christ's halo, down thorugh the left side of the torso. There are two restored holes or losses of approximately 4 x 3 in. and 1 x 4 in. in the beard and turban of the righthand figure and a finer, restored, horizontal tear above his hand. There are other scattered retouches and smaller areas of repaint, most notably in the Christ figure and further restoration attended to old damages along the lower edge.
The painting requires no further intervention and is ready to hang in its present state. Offered in a simply carved gilt wood frame.
