The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas has an old glue relining and is firm on its stretcher. The paint surface clean beneath a clear varnish and is stable though with scattered losses, notably in Christ's thigh, the trees at left, in the tomb and at the painting's edges. There is some abrasion in the sky and background at the right side but the image overall reads well.
Inspection under UV reveals little due to the varnish, though the aforementioned losses flouresce white-green and there appears to be some older, fine retouching to the flag and possibly in Christ's face.
The losses could be attending to, according to taste, but the painting is otherwise ready to hang in its present state. Offered in a carved, black and gilt wood frame.
