The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The copper panel is secured to a cradle. Under natural light, the varnish is dirty and yellowed, and slight scuffing is visible at the extreme edges due to frame contact. Ultraviolet light does not easily penetrate the old varnish, although a few strokes of retouching are visible on the grapes at right. The flower at right fluoresces faintly, perhaps due to an earlier cleaning. A few lines fluoresce near the edges of the copper panel. The painting could be displayed as is, but would likely respond well to a senstiive cleaning by an Old Master paintings conservator.
