The burning of Sodom and Gomorrah with Lot and his daughters

The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The vertically-grained oak panel is approximately ¹⁄₈ and is supported on the reverse with a cradle, which has kept the panel in plane. The paint surface appears to be stable, although there are a few places at the upper and lower edges where a craquelure is visible. A vertical line, perhaps a panel join, is visible 3¹⁄₂ inches from the right edge. Under natural light, the varnish is cloudy. a few ¹⁄₈ inch losses are visible at the upper left corner and there is a small scuff at the center of the lower edge. Discolored repaint is visible at the upper right and lower corners. Under ultraviolet light, in addition to retouching along the aforementioned join, a few touches fluoresce in the sky at upper left along with a 1 inch vertical line over the burning tower at center and a few other touches in the sky at upper right. The painting does not appear to have been cleaned in a long time, and it would likely transform with a sensitive cleaning.
