The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas has been relined and is providing adequate support for the picture. There is a pattern of craquelure to the paint surface, which is showing signs of lifting/tenting in some areas (notably upper left and along the edges), suggesting the relining is weakening and will need to be addressed. There are scuffs and scratches, and several losses, notably centre left, lower left and along the right and lower edges, as visible in the illustration.
There is active woodworm present in the stretcher, which will need to be addressed.
The surface is dirty and the varnish discoloured and degraded. The examination under UV light shows scattered retouching, particularly to the upper left background and some to the darker tones.
