The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The panel is uncradled and exhibits beveling along all four sides of the reverse. There is a slight convex bow to the panel running from left to right. The paint is stable on the support and the varnish generally clear and only minimally yellowed. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals scattered fine lines of retouching to close the vertical wood grain, chiefly in the background but also in the proper left side of the woman’s face. A slightly more concentrated area of retouching also fluoresces in her proper right shoulder and chest. The painting appears to be in very good condition and should be displayed in its current state.
