Cornelis de Heem (Leiden 1631-1695 Antwerp)
Peaches, grapes, oranges, a partially peeled lemon, medlars and other fruit on a two-tiered stone ledge, with nuts, a grasshopper and a butterfly before a niche
Fred G. Meijer, who has inspected this painting at firsthand, considers it a typical late work and suggests it may be a collaboration with the artist's son, David de Heem (1663-1714).

Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas is reinforced on the reverse with a glue lining and a patch on the reverse. A fine craquelure is visible in raking light. The varnish is clear and the paint stable on the support. Under ultraviolet light, the varnish fluoresces unevenly, with only a small passage of restoration to address a restored hole in the upper center of the painting notable. Aside from some age-related thinning to some of the darkest passages in the background, the painting appears to be in a very good state of preservation. The painting has been recently restored and should be displayed in its current state.
