The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas has been relined and retains a good tension on its stretcher. The paint surface is stable and the picture presents well overall with the wealth of narrative detail remaining appreciable throughout the composition. There is evidence of some discoloured retouching associated to the craquelure in the sky, upper right.
Examination under ultraviolet light confirms the delicately applied infilling associated to the sky and scattered spots of retouching elsewhere.
