The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The panel is a single, horizontal board, approximately ½ inch thick. It bows slightly convexly from top to bottom. A frame is affixed to the panel with old nails, two of which are visible on the reverse. Under natural light, the varnish is clear. Several small losses are visible on the teeth and at the center of the mouth of the skull at left, exposing white gesso. Smaller losses are visible at the center of the skull at right. There are some additional areas of lifting paint over the skull at left and here and there on the panel. Under ultraviolet light, scattered touches of strengthening fluoresce on both skulls as well as in places in the background above them. Conservation to stabilize the paint and fill the losses is recommended.
