The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The panel is approximately 1⁄4 inch thick and bows very slightly from left to right. The is evidence of woodworm damage along the proper left side of the panel (seen from the reverse). Under natuarl light, the varnish is slightly yellowed but relatively clear. A fine craquelure is visible in places, but the paint is stable on the support. Slight scuffing is visible along the lower edge, with some associated losses. A few discolored retouches are visible in the sky under Christ's left arm as well as at the upper left corner. Under ultraviolet light, a line of retouching fluoresces along the lower edge of the left arm of the cross, as well as on a few touches on the Magdalene's head and one touch on John's right leg. The painting is otherwise in lovely condition and may be displayed as is.
