The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas is reinforced on the reverse with a glue lining. The varnish is clear and the paint stable on the support. Ultraviolet light reveals a thin M-shaped line of retouching measuring approximately 2 inches in length in the clouds at right to address what appears to be an old tear as well as fine lines of retouching along the edge of the canvas to address earlier frame abrasion. A handful of further unobtrusive very fine short lines also fluoresce in the sky. The painting appears to be in a fine state of preservation, with all of the details in the figures and landscape reading clearly. It should be presented in its current state.
