The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The panel is composed of a single board with vertical wood grain and beveling along all four sides of the reverse. There is a slight convex bow running from left to right. The varnish is clear and the paint stable on the support. A hairline scratch in the varnish is visible running through the central stag’s nose. There are slight edge losses to the lower corners of the panel, both of which are covered by the frame’s rabbet. Ultraviolet light reveals two small areas of retouching in the background as well as retouching along a hairline vertical crack running approximately 1 ½ inches from the upper center edge of the panel. The painting appears to be in a fine state of preservation and should be displayed in its current state.
