The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This oak panel appears to be in reasonably good overall condition and the picture presents well. Canvas strips have been applied to the reverse of the panel, no doubt to provide stability at the join. There are some losses to the paint surface near the edges which have been caused by historic frame abrasion. There are some tiny dark spots in the varnish in the sky, immediately to the right of the main tree.
Examination under ultraviolet light is largely obscured by the old varnish layers but does indicate some historic retouching associated to the wood grain in the sky.
