Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas is reinforced on the reverse with a wax lining. The paint is stable on the support and the varnish is generally clear, if slightly yellowed. A fine craquelure is visible in natural light. Scuffing due to frame abrasion is visible along the lower edge. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals strengthening in the sky, particularly to reinforce the contours of the clouds at upper left and the foliage at upper right. Further areas of retouching fluoresce in the foreground, with comparatively few areas of intervention in the figures. The painting appears to be in very good condition and should be displayed in its current state.
