The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The copper support is generally free of any significant deformations. The varnish is cloudy and discolored and the paint stable on the support. Certain passages of the painting, notably in the roof of one of the buildings at left, suffer from copper disease caused by the lack of adherence of the paint to the support. A handful of small scattered losses are also visible along the lower edge of the painting, as is scuffing due to frame abrasion. Ultraviolet light reveals very few apparent areas of retouching. The painting, which is offered unframed, will respond well to a cleaning and conservation treatment.
