The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas has been recently relined and retains a good tension on its stretcher. There has been some surface abrasion to this naturally dark picture with the canvas ground exposed in passages in the background.
Examination under ultraviolet light reveals strengthening to the background, to the darker tones in the figure, the figure's left hand with more minor spots of retouching elsewhere, including in the flesh tones.
