The male: The canvas is supported with a glue lining. The varnish is clear and the paint is stable on the support. Under natural light, a fine craquelure is visible in places. There is slight scuffing from frame contact along the left edge. Under ultraviolet light, scattered touches of strengthening fluoresce on his face and collar.
The female: The canvas is supported with a glue lining. The varnish is clear and the paint is stable on the support. Under natural light, a fine craquelure is visible in places. There is scuffing visible at the lower right edge and discolored retouching visible at the upper right corner. A strip of repaint is visible along the left side of the lower edge. Under ultraviolet light, scattered touches of strengthening fluoresce on her cheek. Retouching is visible along the edges, including a 2 inch wide area over the right side of the lower edge and an 8 inch vertical line along the left edge culminating in a “D” shape. Both paintings could be displayed in their current condition.
