The panel has been cradled to the reverse. Some old discoloured retouching in the flesh tones is visible to the naked eye. This would appear to largely correspond to the vertical panel join and is most conspicuous in Venus's forehead, but can also be detected in Cupid's forearm and in some of the shadows of Venus's flesh tones. Examination under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned restoration , and reveals a few more minor spots of retouching elsewhere.
