The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
We are grateful to Simon Parkes Art Conservation Inc. for providing the

the lower center. The instability does not seem to be an issue, and the small
losses simply need to be consolidated. Although no restorations are visible
under ultraviolet light, when the picture is cleaned, there will be retouches
that are removed. A visual appraisal of the condition indicates that there are
restorations in the brow of the child and probable restorations in the darkest
color of the background and in the deep red gown on the Madonna. It is hard
to properly gauge the condition, but presumably there are older restorations
perhaps associated with the cracking. However, the condition is encouraging
enough to recommend cleaning and retouching accordingly.
