A POLYCHROME-DECORATED AND GILTWOOD RELIQUARY BUST IN THE FORM OF A YOUNG WOMAN

Presumably reduced from a larger figure. With some lifting and flaking to the paint and gilt decoration, and with some small chips, nicks and losses, all consistent with age. With a large split to her left side and across her back shoulders, and with slight seperation to the seam at her sternum. With multiple cracks overall, particularly one from the top of the head down through to the base of the neck. The interior with two paper labels, as stated in the catalogue description. With a plugged hole to the center of the head. Overall with chipped and flaked losses to gilt and painted decoration. Retouching to the painted and gilded decoration overall as well. The hair and crown are finely carved but with some rubbed losses.
