A CARVED CORAL, ENAMEL AND COPPER DEVOTIONAL PLAQUE

The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

This is in excellent condition. The gilding, enamel, and coral pieces appear to be if not entirely then almost entirely original. Some of the painted surfaces have some very slight flaking, especially the angels. The three figures below have some very slight flaking as well, mostly on the top of their heads, their arms and the base of their dresses. There is some very delicate and refined 'punching' on the engraving around the three painted figures, that may not be visible in the profesisonal photography. The three stones, possibly moonstone though it is unclear, may be later replacements to the Trappani elements, though not apparent or obvious. Since there are dozens of applied elements, it is possible some are replacements. The leather, silk and velvet case is probably late 19th or early 20th century.
