Lot Essay

These two capitals are close to examples to be found in the Dordogne and Aurillac regions, such as the destroyed church of St. Géraud. Yet they are also close to examples in northern Spain, such as the strikingly similar capitals at Loarre castle and at Frómista. Both are along the Pilgrimage Road and, like the present pair, may be the products of iterant sculptors working in both areas.
