The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The panel is uncradled and is beveled along all four sides of the reverse. The varnish is generally clear, if slightly yellowed, and the paint stable on the support, save one small area of tenting in the black background immediately to the left of Mars’ shield. A fine craquelure is visible in natural light. Ultraviolet light reveals passages of retouching in the background, particularly along the left side with fewer small dots of retouching scattered throughout the figures. The strap of mars’ shield appears to be repainted. The painting presents well and should be displayed in its current state.
