Lot Essay

In this engraving by Agostino de' Musi, the figure of the young Roman (?) warrior is shown in the pose and drapery of Alcibiades in Raphael's School of Athens. In the fresco, the Athenian's statesman wears a helmet with four plumes, while here the helmet is surmounted by a dragon.
