The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

In addition to the catalogue description:
- trimmed to or just inside the subject, the sheet remargined and with a 1-mm. borderline added in watercolour.
- some touches of grey wash in the darker areas.
- various tiny losses and repairs, mostly along the margins: the larger, irregular one at the lower sheet edge (approx. 30 x 300 mm.), the corners made up, with some touches of pen and ink.
- some short tears and nicks along the edges, a vertical flattened fold at left, a partially broken, skilfully repaired tear at the upper right sheet edge (43 mm.), a tear at the upper left sheet edge (26 mm.).
- a pale brown stain at the lower right corner, a tiny rust spot on Christ's elbow, some stray red pigment below the tablet
- other minor defects.
