GIOVANNI BATTISTA SCULTORI (1503-1575) AFTER GIULIO ROMANO (CIRCA 1499-1546)
This engraving was attributed to Giorgio Ghisi and also associated with Georg Pencz, but is now accepted to be by Giovanni Battista Scultori, after a preparatory drawing in the Royal Collection at Windsor (inv. no. 0483). It relates to a fresco in the Camera dei Venti in Palazzo Te, Mantua, designed by Giulio Romano. Post Lot Text This lot has been imported from outside the EU for sale and placed under the Temporary Admission regime. Import VAT is payable (at 5%) on the hammer price. In addition to the catalogue description: - trimmed to or just outside the borderline. - the sheet tipped down to the support sheet at the four corners, occasionally with associated creasing at the corners. - a tiny paper loss at the upper left corner. - the lower right corner disturbed, probably with a repaired tear. - some moisture stains verso, occasionally showing through recto, mainly at the lower part of the sheet and around the window at upper centre. - some loose paper fibres on the back of one of the two prisoners at the window. Otherwise as described and in good condition.
