Lot Essay

This large and dynamic etching is one of only ten recorded prints by this little-known artist, who worked in Bologna, Venice and Padua. His monogram GP had previously been confused with that of the German 17th-century etcher Georg Pecham (active circa1593 - d. 1604). The present print is his largest etching; in the second state a coat of arms and a text banderole were added.

For another print by Possenti please see lot 115.
