GIULIO BONASONE (CIRCA 1500/10-1574) AFTER GIULIO ROMANO (1499-1549)
This print is closely related to a drawing by Giulio Romano at the British Museum (inv. no. P.p,2.93), which in turn was a preparatory work for the painting of the same subject at Hampton Court. It is one of series of paintings on the infancy, childhood and relations of Jupiter, commissioned in Mantua on occasion of the birth of Francesco III Gonzaga in 1533.
According to Bartsch, there is only one state of this print and Massari erroneously described a very worn, later impression as a first state.
