The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

- trimmed to or just outside the borderline or subject on three sides.
- with substantial paper losses along the upper sheet edge and into the blank sky, very skilfully made up., possibly with some tiny touches of pen and ink at the top of hills at upper right.
- some cockling in this area due to the repairs.
- with an associated, oblique repaired tear to the left of the Virgin's head.
- a very skilfully repaired area at the left sheet edge at lower centre, only visible in transmitting light.
- some tiny pinpoint foxmarks.
- other smaller defects.
