Lot Essay

Little is known of Peter de Vos, who designed these four plate presumably for the famous Antwerp publisher Hieronymus Cock.
Peter was the brother of Marten de Vos the Elder (1532-1602). He joined the Guild of Saint Luke in Antwerp in 1554 and probably died in 1567, the year before this set of prints was published.
