Lot Essay

The unusual offsetting on the reverse of this sheet can be easily identified as that of Agostino Veneziano's engraving The Academy of Baccio Bandinelli (Bartsch XIV.314.418), dated 1531. The offset is of an impression of the third, final state (undescribed by Bartsch), with the added address of Salamanca, which is clearly visible here. (See Ben Thomas, The Academy of Baccio Bandinelli, Print Quarterly, Vol. XXII, no. 1, March 2005, p. 3-14.) The two plates were evidently printed at the same time in Salamanca's workshop in Rome.
