Lot Essay

Weissenburch was a pupil of Andreas Schelfhout whose work greatly influenced that of the student. The present drawing is a copy after an oil painting by Schelfhout measuring 21 x 27cm in the Amsterdam Museum (inv. A.2621; W.Laanstra, Andreas Schelfhout 1787-1870, Amsterdam, 1995, no. ZO21-1, ill.).
