This painting executed on canvas, and has been supported on the reverse by a glue lining. The canvas is slightly uneven on its stretcher, although stable. The paint layer is stable, although dirty, under a varnish that has yellowed with age. There is an overall uneven network of craquelure. In natural light, scattered areas of retouching are evident, including to the upper right quadrant and to the sitter's face. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned restorations. An opaque varnish impedes further inspection. The painting can be hung in its present state, but its appearance would likely be enhanced through a careful cleaning and revarnishing.
