The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This painting is executed on a panel comprised of three horizontally-oriented boards of equal size with a horizontal grain. It is supported by three veritcal batons on the reverse. There are two short horizontal cracks issuing from the upper left edge. There is a repaired crack at the upper left corner. There is a repair at the lower right edge and an approximately 1 1/4 inches hairline crack at the upper right edge. The paint layer is stable and under a varnish that has slightly yellowed with age. There is an overall network of craquelure. Under natural light, retouching to the edges to address frame abrasion and to the aforementioned cracks is visible. Retouching to the face of the standing figure at left is evident. Inspection under ultraviolet light, confirms the aforementioned restorations, and further strokes of inpainting to minimize craquelure and scattered restorations throughout. The painting can be hung in its present state. The work is offered in a carved gilt wood frame.
