The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas is reinforced on the reverse with a glue lining. The paint layer is stable under a varnish that has discolored slightly with age. There is a network of craquelure across the surface. In natural light, restoration to address earlier frame abrasion and disturbances along the stretcher bar are visible. There are scattered areas of retouching throughout, including to the background and to a hair curl above her proper right shoulder. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned areas of retouching. An uneven varnish impedes further inspection. The painting's appearance would likely be enhanced by removing and refreshing the discolored varnish, although the work can hang in its present state. The painting is offered in a carved giltwood frame.
